Tips for Sport Bike Riding

Would you like a few riding tips to help you perform better on your sport bike or dirt bike?

That’s one of our favorite ways to help new, intermediate, or advanced riders. In fact, we offer several riding clinics for men, women, and children.

Sport bike riding isn’t exceptionally complicated, but there’s a decent learning curve. Here’s a quick guide for how to ride better on a sport bike.

Dirt Bikiing

They’re Faster - So Accelerate Carefully

Sport bikes, AKA sport motorcycles, are wonderful for two things: handling rough terrain, and going fast while doing so. However, you must respect the greater acceleration capability, especially as a beginner. Learn how to twist the throttle with the right finesse if you want to avoid that unexpected jolt of speed. It’s awesome to go fast, but it’s a terrible idea to let it overwhelm you. Don’t forget that part of this involves practicing how to engage the clutch (and knowing how to release the throttle properly).

Practice Good Posture

Nobody rides a sport bike sitting down the entire time. That alone makes this a great source of exercise for anybody looking to escape a sedentary daily life. Proper riding posture means getting into a crouched position while tucking your legs up, rather than riding upright, leaning back, or slouched. This will take practice and you may experience soreness after the first couple of rides.

Spend Time Getting Used to the Steering & Brakes

The steering aspect of riding a sport bike is a little different, too. If you aren’t careful making turns, it’s easy to slide out of control. Then with the brakes, resist the urge to slam them too hard because the recoil force will probably launch you off your bike. This is yet another reason it’s smart to do a few test runs before attempting a medium or difficult trail.

Those are the basic components of riding a sport bike. Obviously, there’s more to it than this brief snippet. You’ll always want to make sure you have proper riding equipment and licensing to ride before doing anything.
