Basics of Enduro Racing
Enduro racing has been around for about 100 years, and its racing format places an even greater emphasis on cardiovascular output than traditional cross-country riding. However, it also requires more endurance than a straight down-hill race.
Enduro is time-trial racing, which normally takes place in wooded areas around the mountains. Most races are single-trail events, where dirt bike racers cross various checkpoints before returning to the original starting position. The length of the course could span anywhere from 75 to 150 miles, and often includes between three to five participants.
The time-keeping element is based on those checkpoints where officials will track how long you take to reach each one, along with recording a total time for the entire race. The precise time-recording will depend on league rules, however. You may also hear of “transfer stages,” which are the most challenging parts of the race, and normally require minimum completion times to continue.
